Dāna

In the ancient Buddhist tradition, I offer meditation teaching freely. The Dharma is a gift (dāna) of immeasurable value and should not only be available to those who can afford to buy it.

In Buddhist societies, the community supports the welfare of Dharma teachers and provides for their material needs, often through monastic settings, by offering gifts of food, money, robes and medicines. The sharing of the Dharma is supported by this gift exchange, which enables teachers to dedicate their time to the practice, study and teaching that the role requires.

This is hard to do in 21st Century Australia as a lay teacher with children. I am committed to sharing the Dharma to the best of my ability, and this is possible to the extent that it provides me with a livelihood to support my family.
